President's Message

We got off to a great start with September's meeting. Thanks to everyone who attended. We had a great crowd including some new faces (new members)! I encourage all of the membership to attend the quarterly meetings and also the Spring Conference. It is a great opportunity to meet new people, renew old friendships and to learn from each other
.
With the September 19th meeting, we added a new feature to the dinner meetings. Cheri Marcham has contacted vendors to present information on new equipment. The first presentation was made by Robert Stroup, Jr, with BW Technologies who is a supplier to Lone Star Safety and Supply. Lone Star Safety and Supply representatives present were: B.J. Agee, Don Holmes, Account Executives and David Chapman, Branch Manager. Mr. Stroup did a great job of introducing a new multi-gas detector called GasAlertMicroClip which is reasonably priced!

Everyone learned a lot from our speaker Jim Brown, OSHA Area Director. He discussed in detail OSHA compliance activities for 2006 and provided a great overview of the new hex chrome standard. Remember you need to be in compliance with the provisions of this revised and expanded standard by November 27, 2006 (except for engineering controls). He continues to be a great resource for the section and his presentations are always informative about current and upcoming OSHA rules and regulations. Look for Mr. Brown's presentation on our website in November.

Watch for additional information on the Spring Conference in up-coming newsletters. The topic is "The Industrial Hygienist's Role in a Pandemic and Other Emergency Response Issues". Cheri Marcham and the conference planning committee have a great program planned.

The next meeting will be on November 28, 2006 in Norman. The speaker will be Dr. Matthew Nonnenmann from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. His presentation will provide a fresh perspective on the topic of Ergonomics. Plan to attend this meeting and remember to bring a friend.
